Water Conditioner - Which One?

To see if you have Chloramines in your water, simply do an ammonia test on some conditioned water from your tap. My water has about 1ppm ammonia after the chloramines are neutralized. I use a small amount of Amquel+ to reduce the ammonia toxicity during partial water changes.

I used ammo-lock on my 15g and 5 g initial set-ups. It binds chloro and chlora and ammonia....anything esle it did, I didn't care about. It allows for a larger measurement than sachem prime.

Now I use the sachem prime, more bang for the buck and I have a larger tank to dump it into.

Allowing water to sit uncovered about 48 hrs also precipitates out the chlorine. Not chloramines though.

If you are currently using water with chlorine it is a good idea to periodically check with the water department to make sure they haven't switched to chloramine. Also most municipalities have a website to check on additives to the water supply.

Prime all the way. Its also good in a pinch when u can't get a water change done, if ur going on vac or something. VERY efficent as well. It also removes heavy metals.
