Howdy,

This may be a silly question..... but.... here goes....

Someone told me that when you do your water changes, the old water that you get rid of is really good for the garden. This kinda made sense to me, but then It occurred to me that our veggie patch is a shared one and I should probably be a bit more certain of it before putting the old fish water on everyone else's tomatoes :)

So is there does and don'ts with your tank water disposal?

Thanks!
Cam

old tank water is RICH in micronutrienst and lots of good things for plants, i wouldnt use it to fertalize vegetables if you have recntly used any kind of fish medication like pima or melafix though otherwise its a great natural fertalizer

Ditto. As long as the water is free of medications used in the aquarium, your plants will love it.

Yup. I had the best tomatoes in neighborhood this past summer. It's hard for me to be thinking about gardening when it is so col out!

My houseplants and orchids love fish water, too!

Fantastic - thanks everyone for such a quick response!!! I shall splash away over the veggie patch :)

..... although, we've had a summer of non stop rain in Sydney this year. Nothing makes you feel more stupid than pouring water on the garden while it's raining! :)

Thanks!

Most of my drains go out the nearest window or door to the flower beds...

I usually water house plants or down the toilet.

Putting aquarium water on my vegetables outside sounds a bit icky and to be eating fish water veggies.

Think of it as fish manure.
