Water distiller

Yeah, I mix it with tap so no meaningfull difference. This unit sounds like it may be cost effective as I don't think there are membranes and cartridges to replace other than the carbon.
I think the energy usage would be the only down side.

Also remember that distilling water drives all the dissolved oxygen out of it. If you are mixing with tap water it might be alright, but you'd be well advised to aerate well before adding it into the tank.

I used to have a distiller almost identical to that one. Only difference was that it was white on the outside. Eventually the heating element burned in two and there is no way to replace that.

If you get it.. just make sure to wash it out after each load or you will have to run white vinegar in it (lid off so it just boils verse distills) to remove the mineral deposits from time to time.

It consumes a lot of electricity for what it does... IMO, I'd get a small RO filter verse this.

It says it uses 580 watts. I guess that would be the equivalent of running a good sized aquarium several hours a day. Rinsing it out after each use sounds easy enough...
It's been posted on craigslist several times. Maybe i will offer 30 bucks and see if they go for it.

Oh yeah, I used to run mine out in the garage in the summer... it puts a lot of heat in the air... in winter it keeps a small room nice and warm if you don't mind the fan noise.

Have you figured out how much it will cost to run it? Could be cheaper to buy distilled water from somewhere.
