Scam did come to mind when I saw the claims. I am aware that manufacturers will stretch the truth in promoting their products. It reminds me of the marine products that claim to remove ammonia. Well I learned that the ammonia was not removed but it was detoxified. A test for ammonia will still read positive. Even phosphate can be locked up and released under certain conditions. So when they say removed, they don't say to where.
