When starting a new tank should I use filtered water via a ceramic filter that removes everything or regular tap water? Thanks

I Usew plain old tap. But either way you have to use water conditioner. If you don't use conditioner the clohrine will kill the fish as well as healthy bacteria necessary for cycling your tank.

I don't add a thing to my water, just let it age for a week in a tub with a heater, thermometer, powerhead, and airstone.
FWIW that's not going to help if your city decides to start using chloramines. They don't gas off.

I age water also, but not that long for most of the tanks (only a few have their own reservoirs, those do age a week). I do have to test for chloramines, as the utility reserves the option to use such.

Make sure what is in your city/well water if you are going to use tap. I live in an area with good water (usually neutral PH and not too many minerals), so I just use tap straight to the tank while adding de-chlor and conditioners.

It depends on the water source. I have always had well water in the different places I've lived, so even water conditioner isn't necessary. I do like to age my change water though, to avoid swings in ph.

i use tap. its best because your fish are gonna have to get used to the ph and stuff when you're doing water changes anyhow, so bottled or distilled water doesn't help there.

i once knew a guy who lived on a beach and used lake water o_O
