So the 30g is having diatom issues after 6 months? Although they are normal in a newly cycled tank I'd be looking for a source at 6 months. Water source, feeding amount, clean up crew, etc.

What is currently in my tank is 1 royal gramma 1 clown goby 1 ocellaris clown fish (1 from my profile is in QT b/c of aggression). I also have 6 nassartius snails (I think--they are the kind that dig under the sand), 2 turbo snails, 2 astrea snails, a blue hermit crab and a red hermit crab.
Would feeding too much or too little make the diatoms appear? using treated tap water for water changes (I know--RO unit is on the list of things to get next as soon as I pay off my washer and dryer this month) I bring my water to the LFS to have it tested almost every week and everything is always fine. Nitrate/nitrite/ammonia 0, pH 8.4.
There's not a lot on the glass, only a little in some spots. On other spots there is a green algae that is he!! to scrub off.
