I agree on water change advise. 10% IMO does next to nothing. If you're trying to remove dissolved organics and excess nitrates (not as much of a problem in planted tanks) then a 10% change would only cut the concentration by 1/10th right. Why bother?
What is the ph of the tap after it sits overnight? Are you running CO2 in that tank? I would not think that water with a ph of 8 would be very soft at all. Just curious as I have the hardest time lowering my ph.
That is true, but for very large water changes it is a good idea to check the pH and match that, too.
