Hi all thanks for taking the time to read this post. Ive been keeping fish along time ,but just confused a bit about the water hardness. I keep all sorts of fresh water angelfish tank guppy tank platy tank cherry shrimp and i also breed bristle nose pleco as well i have a 220 g saltwater reef tank. So no stranger to water testing lol
Anyways were on well water which is very hard.here are some different readings in my case. Using api test kit in ppm GH KH
straight from the well 180 240
out of water softner 0 240
using my RODI unit 0 40 (cartridges need replaced not sure if thats why it 40)
My questions are is 240 to high to keep angel fish breeding tanks. aswell as some shrimp breeding tanks
i know using the ro would be best but the amount of water i use up is hard enough to keep up with water change and top offs. I prefer not to use it for the fresh water.
Should i try to lower the kh with some peat or something. Aslo is it safe to have 0 gh or bad to have 180.(i could mix the two and in theroy that would give me roughly 90 gh.
