Water Hardness

My 10gal fish tank has a water hardness of 150ppm. The tank and pump are covered with flakey white stuff. I am not sure what this flakey white stuff is that covers the top of my fish tank and pump. I belive it might have something to do with the water hardness. Thanks

THe flaky white stuff is likely a mineral deposit from the hard water. Usually either lime or calcium.

What level of hardness does this come into effect at?
