Water has turned green

I'm glad it has cleared up.

I do want to say that green water is almost exclusivly caused by ammonia spikes. Don't ever change more than 1/2 of your filter media at a time. You're causing your tank to go through a new mini-cycle by changing that much media, the result is ammonia, which encourages the greenwater.

I would remove the carbon completely and double up on your sponge. If your tap water is chlorinated don't EVER use it to rinse your media. When you do your water changes rinse the sponge out in the old tank water, then put it back. You have a real heavy bioload for a 10 gallon tank, so keep up on your water changes.

A quick way to grow green water is to put a bucket outside in a sunny spot and throw in a handful of old leaves.

the last time I had green water, I used a combination of a small uv sterilizer, and no light, for 3 days, and it was completely clear.

these days, I wish I could get a good greenwater going. my bamboo shrimp would love it. BBS would love it. Snails love it. I imagine my stiphodon would love it too.
