Water lettuce?

All you could do is try some and see. My goldfish don't really bother my water lettuce or water hyacinths. Are you feeding your fish or are you letting them eat whatever they find in the pond? Feeding can help reduce plant shredding sometimes but not always.

Hello again, yes I do feed the barbs. But they really consume the plants at a very fast rate. It seems like all of you agree on the hyacinth but the problem is that there aren't much plants in circulation here in most lfs in my area. Most of the time its just cabomba and hydrilla. I'm thinking of trying water lettuce because a shipment arrived at a plant shop near us (its not even an lfs). Well, thank you every one. I appreciate everyone's input. :D If I come across this hyacinth I'll give it a try. Right now I'm gonna try my luck with water lettuce first. :D

By the way how do these things multiply? Water lettuce I mean.

Small plantlets are sent out on runners from the base of the parent plant. These runners soon rot away and the plantlet becomes free floating.

Thanks :D

Whoa, hey, calm down buddy. I read your original post. I just couldnt figure out how you couldnt find a plant the barbs wouldnt eat... but...

I think I get it now. You have been trying aquarium plants in your pond, but your selection is limited at the lfs and the barbs mutilate everything you can find.

I think you will do much better at the plant store you just went to. I picked up all my pond plants at pond or garden stores, none at the lfs (no lfs' sell pond plants here.) If you havent, you should ask the storekeeper if they have other plants that would work for a pond, I think you will find that they have a lot, water features are becoming very popular. Plus, pond plants tend to be a bit thicker or harder than the plants commonly used in aquariums making them tougher to chew on.

Thanks, sorry about the other post. I think it didn't sound right. It wasn't meant to be offensive. Wrong choice of words I guess. Thanks again :)
