water main, ammonia, necrosis

never thought of rubbing a pea paste onto something... hmmm. i love peas... natures elixir... lol. i have the garlic... can't live without that and hot sauce. the rainwater is being collected in clean airtight coolers. it's been a monsoon in my normally almost desert back yard on and off for a while. the tap water will not probably be an option for a while. the ammonia is actually raising. i have records of what all the levels have been all throughout the house. some on this and that pad, spreadsheets on 2 pc's and on the back of mail and shopping lists everywhere. anyway they are planning for a couple months before they are done with the pipes as far as i know. that's definitely not in my favor. i did test the rain water and it seems to be a consistent 6.4 ph and neutral kh and gh. when i raise the kh to 5 and the gh to 6 the ph hangs maybe just at, maybe over 7. that's not a bad constant for me considering my tap water before the pipes and i do planted tanks and i'm planning to up my co2 intake and lights in the near future.

How's Farly doing? We need an update. I hope the little guy is feeling better.

farly's doing great... huge turn around! he's still in the qt for healing purposes just in case though.

the bad part is now my betta seems to have it too. she just has a little at the edges of her gill covers. i was worried because i was just able to get her out of the main tank yesterday. so anyway since i only have so much equipment she's in with him. i gave him a short break on treatment knowing in the back of my head she was going to have to go in with him so he should pull right through it. i did 50% w/c's twice daily for a couple days while he was on his break and things are testing nicely so far.

the 50 is back on schedule... yay!!! as a matter of fact i might have to dose nitrates to keep my plants alive soon as they don't seem to want to go above 5 now. it could be worse though... much worse.

the 30 swings a little which throws me off cause it's the oldest tank and i almost can't see into it for the plants. nitrates shoot up quick in that tank for some reason. furthermore, ammonia hasn't really tested positive in that tank at all. before this all came to be the water was changed on the 30 on sunday and the 50 the tuesday after. that means (to me) the ammonia in my tap went from almost 0 to almost .5 in about 2 days. either that or the 30 converted it much quicker, but nitrites have been a steady 0 all the way around.

to top it all off while dealing with all this my uncle who's dying of aids broke his leg and needs assistance from time to time. he's a 45 minute drive away. the wife's grandmother found out she has cancer and needs chemo. my brother is now confirmed and going to iraq and surrounding areas within the next month or so. if that isn't bad enough my 5 yr old shattered the screen on the wifes laptop so now she's moody all the time cause she can't read her e-books she was half way through. she too has no escape from things and we're both getting batty now. a close friend of mine has helped us out and ordered a new screen for her so i'll be installing that when it arrives so it's just time before she levels out again... like i said that was her escape.

all in all though everything seems like it's gonna work out for the fish at least. i did mix some veggie matter (and everything else i had) in with farlys egg yolk. he's not eating as much as he was, but i'm sure he was very hungry once he started to heal. he's still eating more than i expected.

melody... you are a very kind hearted person! thank you for sticking through this :duh:stupid:duh: :newbie: situation with me. :y220e::clap::bowing:

thank you very much snoopy. there really are some members around here with big hearts. your support is very much appreciated!

Awww... you're just so welcome! :thm:

I'm just doing what so many others have done for me. :) The members of AC are always ready to help.

I think I can speak for others here, that there's nothing that makes us feel better than to see someone get through a rough patch like you have, and to have a sick fish get well.:headbang2:

You worked hard for you little guy. Good Job!!

Continue to keep up the water changes and close monitoring of your parameters. Pristine water for your fish friends will keep them healthy and happy.

i just wanted to go ahead and thank you guys again. all of you! you guys came through for me in a very bad time. that is so much appreciated, i cannot begin to explain. i'm sure somehow you guys understand though.

anyway since i hadn't taken or given any pics of the betta i will not focus on that. i did however want to update a new pic of farly back at home finally...

he's half the man he used to be but he was an angry fella when i tried to remove him from the q/t. he's got his spunk back full throttle!

now all i have to do is wait out the whole water pipe situation and all should be fine... argh. they should be done soon though as i can't see these above ground pipes not freezing in winter.

EDIT: oh, and i fixed the wifeys laptop in like 2 days when the screen came in. so all is pretty much well. the rest we'll just have to live with.
