Is this too much water movement for my 55 gal tank.

1 Rio Aqua powerhead 600 (200 gph)
2 Mico Jet 450 (117 gph each)
1 Mag Drive 7 (about 4-5' of height, 420-480 gph) from the wet/dry filter tru a Sea Swirl's Rotating Return Device to the aquarium.

Probably not, but you might want to remove the Rio and replace it with a powerhead that is more reliable. There are numerous stories of Rio's malfunctioning and spewing oils into the tank.

Does it look like the current is distributed around the tank? Some areas where there's lots of flow, others where there's only a bit, but no place where there is none? Unless you're keeping sea horses or pipe fish, this will be fine for most fish.

I'd say definitely not too much. Remember that water movement on the reef is very heavy and turbulent. The fish deal with it fine, and the corals absolutely need it. In my opinion, 10X the tank volume per hour is just the start.

the current is equally distributed around the tank. I am planning on having some corals and fish next week. What's a good beginner coral you guys can suggest? and what is the ideal temperature to keep the tank, mine is at 77.
thanks in advance.

Mushrooms and some of the lower light polyps, like star or brown polyps will be good beginner corals. I'd let the tank run for several months before adding them, though. You'll want to get in the routine of keeping the tank stable--water topoffs, changes, etc, before introducing corals.

Temp should be okay--that's about where I keep mine.

thank you much

Good beginner corals are star polyps, brain coral, mushrooms and button polyps. All easy and have may different color morphs. And I don't think that is very easy to overdo water movement. Many SPS keepers run around 40x the tank volume turnover in an hour.

in the ocean the turnover rate is in seconds so there hopefully will never be a problem with you cometing with that in your tanks... but just make sure its not too much for the corals you want to keep down the line, or animals for that matter (i.e. some xenia or like... um.... feather dusters)
