do you think fertilizing it would help create the daughter bulbs?

I've had problems in the past with the bulb portion rotting and requiring some hand stripping of the layers. I was on a well at that point and the water was fairly basic in the mid 8.*'s and quite hard. Not sure which water condition was the contributing factor, maybe both.

well when i got it, it was rotting like you said(because lfs doesnt know how to care for plants) and all i did was make it happy and now its fine. i havent had any problems with it rotting.

The only advice i have for these plants is to not bury the whole bulb as it will rot

The picture in the book has it half planted. I guess the bulb is similar to a rhizome.
