So i finally got my water tested. Just to see whats up and to see if i can change anything to help breed cherry shrimp in my 5g and if DIY co2 is ok with my parameters. I heard about ph swings and low hardness?

So my usual lfs guy was in a hurry or something. It was like pulling teeth. He didnt wanna do it unless i had a bag of dead fish. I understood his point as to it can take the fun out of fish keeping. But anyhow my other lfs was quick and painless. So heres the results. Today is wen the 26th and i usually do water changes on sun. I took the water on sun for 33 and the other on mon. I tested on sun and mon so it would be like worst case scenario. The one at 33 aquarium was on sun. The pet store was on mon. And on sun night i added 2 fizz tabs of ammonia remover, since he said it was high and toxic. so thats why on mon i think on the 55g it was a point down.

o and the guy (33 aquarium) didnt even understand/wanna do the hardness. i had to explain it. gesh

both were liquid test kits

But so what do you think? n/a= guess i didnt get it or write it down.

i did WC on tue with my new Python and OMG that thing rocks.

stocking is as follows below.

any pointers or red flags? Thankyou everyone for your help.

yea you could say they are cycling i guess? 55g is 4 months and the 5 g is like a month or two old, and the 10g is about 2 weeks. i used old water on half the 10g capacity too.

you should invest in your on test reagents.(kit)
a tank that is 5 months old should not be experiencing a cycle..unless you have been changing filter elements and totally cleaning the tank..it should be stable by now.

with a hardness of 1dk(did they test fot kH or gH?)
either way that is extremely clean water an with no buffers may cause issues as you may experience swings in pH.

(again get your own test kit in this case kH/gH)

I would not put ANY shrimp in an aquarium until Amonnia is 0 as well as nitrites. Shrimp are very very sensative to such things.

As for DIY Co2, I would not recomend it with your water. Your water is so soft it would easily become toxic.

I also think you should go out and buy a test kit. Your water almost demands it!

Just my 2 cents.

thankyou guys. the gentlemen wernt that helpful. i explained i was new and didnt know what the specific numbers meaned.

jm1212 i think the guy said the 55g "looked" like it was cycling b/c i hadnt gravel vac'd it yet do to plants roots/rooting. but i did with my new python so its down im sure.

i just didnt know if my #'s (right before a WC) were crazy outta whack or anything? or if certain things wernt good for co2 addage?

anyone else? have a thought please?

so i need alittle more help here?

so please people i need your very knowledged 2 cents.

i poseted #'s of my params right before a water change. everything ok since i gravel vac'd my 55g (first time in 4 months). i thought it was good for the plants.

how do i know when my tanks are done cycling?

should i have more of something?

a cycled tank should have 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites, with some nitrates unless very heavily planted...but if you havent done wc's or gravel vaccing in 4 moths that may be why your tanks have those readings

you should be doing atleast 10% wc's every week, with gravel vaccing

You should gravel vac every week when you do a water change..... Mine collects alot in a week as I am always pulling yuck out of the gravel when I vac it ... I couldnt imagine how much stuff was in your gravel after 4 months.... This is probably the reason for your water parameters being all screwy now
