Don't think you should use it at all. Table salt is fine for ich.

Maybe you should check out this this: Salt and Its Uses

Salt has many uses and is a great alternative to using many toxic medications but thats a whole other thread, one which has been already discussed. I just want to know if this particular salt is aquarium safe. I know I have heard too that its ok to use table salt and Im sure it is but I really just want to use pure salt with no additives and I dont want to pay a arm and a leg for it.

When salt supplementation is advised, Morton recommends using Morton® White Crystal® Solar Salt or Morton® Canning and Pickling Salt for fish ponds and fresh water aquariums, as these products do not contain additives. Note that it may be advisable to make a solution from the salt before adding it to the pond or aquarium. Please see your fish expert or veterinarian for the proper use of salt in a pond or aquarium.


As far as that particular salt, you should write the company that makes it and ask them if they would recommend it for ponds and/or aquarium use.
 
PERFECT!!! That is exactly what I wanted to see "these products do not contain additives" and I'm pretty sure that I have seen Morton® White Crystal® Solar Salt just about everywhere too. I have lots of tanks and buying API aquarium salt is ridiculously expense for just salt. Thanks for your help!
 
The so-called Aquarium Salt products that you see in pet stores are just plain salt.. the same kind of plain salt you use on your food... JUST WAYYYYY OVERPRICED!!!! Even iodized salt is OK. For ponds, there has been some concern due to the anti-caking agents, often YPS, as being in direct sunlight, YPS breaks down and supposedly can cause problems. See these two links.. the second one by a pond veterinarian who explains about YPS but that he has never seen any problems even with folks that used salt containing YPS. For indoor tanks that do not get direct sunlight, this is a non-issue.
