Hey all. I've never owned a water softner in the past but we just got one. Wondering if there is any extra precautions I need to take when doing a water change. Thanks.

Water softeners Exchange Calcium and Magnesium for sodium at roughly a 2:1 ratio, so the water coming out of the softener is twice as hard (In the snese that matters to fish) and additionally is high sodium and low in essential Calcium and magnesium. Put a spigot in line previous to the softener, and use the unsoftened water for your fish.
