Water Softner Salt?

Hello everyone, New to the site here. Looks like a wealth of information availaible. I just started a new 55 gal. marine about 3 weeks ago. No Nitrites, water at 1.024sg....

I've heard that instead of buying $20/bag "Ocean Salt" that you can actually use water softner salt as long as it's 99% pure and has no chemical or caking aditives added to it like those to inhibit rust?

Has anyone had any success trying this?

Nope- there is much more to oceanwater than just salt.
Marine mix companies have spent tons of money and research perfecting the mix of minerals and trace elements- all of which your aquarium need.
