my aquarium is running hot right now about 86 f. i wanted like 79 or 80. any ideas of how to cool it down?

could be your heaters. i would check that first. you can use frozen bottles of water or put a fan over it to help cool it down.

what temp are you keeping your house?

is the tank in sunlight?

sounds to me like it is your heater. it probably malfunctioned., mine did the smae thing but pushed my temps to 87 (but i was treating for ich... how convenient )

house temp during the day is in the 80s. and no its not in the sunlight. ill check the heater

Maybe turn your light off periodically.

Even though the heaters are automatic the thermostat can go bad and they may stick on.

What is the room temp. If the tank is warmer than the room they're getting heat from something (either heaters or other equipment)

some heaters just go crazy and stop working or get off. its hard to know 100% what it is. your the only one who can test a few of the ideas and see what it is. has anything changed? more lighting on more room temp ext

the only thing is we leave the ac off during the day so it get in the mid eighties in the house. other then that nothing else. the heater light is not on either
