Water Temperature

Live bearers also enjoy higher temperatures.

Would it help if I have a aquaclear water side glass water filter to allow fresh cooler air to hit the water? Currently I have the tank pretty sealed off from the top. Should I open this tank up a little bit?

There are several species of fish that tolerate this range of temperature that are considered good tankmates for discus. You will be able to have these fish in those temps. even if you do not have discus in your tank. Rams come to mind. Either the german blue ram or the bolivian ram. A pair or two of them would be great. You may also want to consider some species of tetra that occupy more then the bottom of the tank(rams prefer the bottom of the tank.) Rummynose tetras are beautiful with their silver bodies and red noses and blackish tails. They school well togather and are awesome to watch swimming through all of the plants. Neons and cardinals also come to mind. Of those two I like the cardinals better since I think they are prettier then the neons and tend to be a bit hardier. Also the rosie tetra. I have them in with my discus and they do very well in these temperatures. Bleeding hearts are another one to consider as well. You can also consider some species of cories as well. I like the pandas and the peppered cories as well as the juli cories. I hope this gives you some ideas of other fish that can be kept successfully at higher temps,

Hope this helps.

it has been my experience and i have seen through research that neons and cardinals actually prefer (and thrive) in temperatures less than 80 degrees.. and i in fact have not seen any neon tetras survive longer than 30 days in temperatures higher than 80 degrees.

that's a personal experience though, and in no way conclusive. :)

Thats fine....but can you suggest fish that do tolerate these conditions?

Agreed most tetras do not do well over 80 degrees.

our livebearers love their 81degree water,
and our tetra/ram/cory tank does well in 82 degrees.

My 2 tanks are currently 84F and 82F

I have a pair of GBRs, absoultely beautiful colors and are laying eggs every week recently. very healthy.

8 Rummynoses - Doing great and their noses are realll red.

4 cardinal tetras - Look great, i had 6 but 2 were killed last week by a VERY aggresive GBR protecting his eggs.
ps. dont let this discourage you, GBRs are rarely THAT aggresive.

Also have 10 panda cories and 1 melini cory which are doin great as well.

Im sure some livebearers would work great as well but i have no experience with them personally.
