We Are SO Snowed In!!! (Virginia)

I love snow. It's crazy that I would because we have a lot of horses and they get fed 2x a day regardless of what else is going on in life, including snow, but I still love it.

We're getting a major storm now with maybe 24" of snow when it's done. We had a similar storm this past December but these deep snows are not typical for our area.

To further complicate it, most of my horses stand about 34" max at the shoulder! And they do NOT like to be stalled (some have never been locked up). There were early reports that we might get 40" out of this storm and that had me relying slightly on some Xanax to not give myself an ulcer! But thankfully, this should not be over even any of our yearling's heads.

It's so pretty here. I ruined a camera in the past taking photos while it was still snowing so I probably won't get any of this snow until tomorrow. I love being snowed in with my husband, dogs, fish and the horses getting tons of extra hay (and lots of open stalls and run in sheds for them to be in if they choose).

I know other members are in VA too and even more in the other states effected by this storm. Hope you all are enjoying it as much as we are. Such a pretty sight and just makes me feel so peaceful and content!

Ok so story time.

I was born and raised in Virginia(Roanoke) and now I live in Wisconsin. My parents LOVE to call me in the winter and ask how the weather is. It drives me crazy. THIS year though Virginia has had more snow than we have and it's pay back time. I am loving it :P

i grew up on a horse farm and it honestly has tainted my ability to enjoy snow, lol. We had a couple dozen horses at any given time and the constant cleaning of stalls, shoveling of snow to get them from point a to point b, breaking ice buckets (this was before the time of the heated ones, lol), taking blankets on and off....oh the memories :grinno: We were fortunate that we had an indoor riding arena and could rotate which were out of their stalls to get some exercise when the weather was very severe but it was still a ton of work whenever we had 8" or more of snow. The worst part was figuring out what todo with the manure when the manure spreader was under feet of snow.

LOL!!! So at least one person understands why I shoulding like it! But I love the snow!!! I probably wouldn't if my husband didn't help so much, but he does. It makes it SO much harder to tend to the horses (they love the snow, too), but other than the 2x a day when we are taking care of the nags, I just am so stupidly happy about so much snow :) :) :)

And, minis get SO woolly in the winter time. The only time i ever, ever blanket is if it's cold and I've clipped them for a show... I put them in slinkies and light sheets then the night before a show (and stall them -- the only time we stall is related to a show or when we're watching a mare under camera for foaling).

Seems to me that with lots of frozen manure, you wouldn't even have to make snowballs for a snowball fight....ready-made ammunition. Also, did you ever consider making manure forts?

I did combined training so alot of my horses were clipped. We also ran a non-profit therapeutic riding for the handicapped program so those horses were "au natural". Really just my competition horses were super high maintenance but man, it was alot of work! :D

It is a lot of work. I show about 6 horses a year but they're pretty rugged. The snow makes it harder but I still love the snow. AND, I'm planning to take the world's best nap later today LOL!!!
