the running question in our house is where is she gonna have the puppies and how much bigger can she get

we got spike an nala from a breeder who basically saw them as nothing but a puppy factory she was actually gonna put spike down because she thought he was ugly we see them as valued family pets and its been wonderful to see them come out of the shell and become part of the family

I have 2 full bred dogs, I had them neutered 5 months to tyhe day even though they were papered. I feel there are to many animals put down every year and to do the right thing is to neuter and or spay right away. They are both soooooooo cute. I love the hairless one, and I would say If you have a hairless one I want it!!! please ))))))))))))))) that said, please if you are a good pet owner, spay and neuter now so they do not go to unhappy homes :) ( oh and I do want a hairless  )

well they wont be going to unhappy homes i can tell you that the chances of us giving any of them away is very very very small if we do give any of them away it will be one to my sisterinlaw who is most defintely a pet lover

i can agree that animals should not be allowed to reproduce at will and its nothing to seperate a dog in heat from the male we have a big house but i as well do not see any reason why we should not be able to enjoy having a nice family of dogs this is nalas second heat since we got her and no puppies from the first one

as well if we wish to sell a few of the puppies as they will be ckc registered since their parents are what is the problem with that

Good luck keeping them all. You should have her xrayed so you know just how many she's expecting. If she has a large litter, well, you might find yourself spending much, much more time and money than you can afford. 6 puppies plus mom and dad mean 8 dogs to feed, house, exercise, clean up, spend time with, and last but not least, groom. Going to be a helluva lot of hair flying around.

Good luck to you, though. I hope all of the puppies are okay. Are you going to spay/neuter them, or at least one of them, after? I don't think it's very easy on the female to keep having litters.

oh the expense of keeping them will be no problems and the truth be known we actually have people who literally are knocking down our door to get a puppy when they are born twice over so if we wanted to we could have them all presold twice with the next litter being presold as well butas stated thats not what we doing

we have a double lot property so space is not an issue an they are a really small breed of dog so easy to take care of

I agree, not to mention vet bills. Puppies need multiple rounds of vaccines in the first year. Then there's monthly heartworm pills and flea prevention, even for inside only dogs. We humans can carry ticks, and fleas (which carry tapeworm eggs) in on our pant cuffs and can let mosquitos (which can infect dogs with heartworm disease) in by opening doors/windows, so it is necessary to keep indoors pets on preventatives.

AKC and CKC registry papers are easily attained and can be for dogs that are not perfect standards of their breeds, meaning the papers do not hold as much meaning as they maybe once did. Many people in my opinion do not know how to care for pets, esp. dogs, and think it's a right to have pets. I would be choosy with whom I sell the puppies to if I were you if you do end up selling some. Ask potential owners questions about their lifestyles and such to see if they might truly be set up for having a dog.

I do believe in spaying and neutering pets, not only because of the surplus of cats and dogs being put down in pounds, or left to roam the streets, but because cats and dogs can develop cancers of the prostate and uterus just like people can. Not saying it is a rampant problem, but prevention is best.

I truly am sorry to rain on your parade and most likely upset you, as puppies and kitties are wonderful to have around, but these are things to really think about when animals' lives are in your care.

i feel i must say this

my wife an i have 7 kids and we decided that pets would be our social life and the cost of having and caring for pets is not so exhorbitant when that factor is taken into consideration

for example for my ferrets when we go get them pet food we get them the expensive kind as well for our dogs we get them the good kind since my wife an i have a few businesses that make money we have a good disposable income

there is no raining on my parade here since this is an open forum and people are just expressing their thoughts as to how they do things as well why should i get mad the only thing that might get me mad is if someone came on to flame me cause i wont spay an neuter but im not so thin skinned that opposing viewpoints will rile me

i will post pics of the puppies when they show up

I think your babies will make very pretty puppies !! I have always wanted a crested, I hope mommy dog does well and that you have a nice litter .you do plan on spaying and neutering after this litter right? or are you doing this to make money ?

Also be aware that having an unspayed female may lead to a uterine infection down the road (pyometra) and will change a $100-300 spay to a $2,000+ emergency surgery. I work in a vet clinic and people are always shocked by how much money they are going to have to pay. Make sure you research the proper care and feeding requirements for a pregnant mother as well. Oh, and I second the xray idea. Small dogs have more problems giving birth than large dogs and seem to require medical assistance more often. Especially true if there are too many or too large puppies.

I am all for spayed and neutering as well, but good job on rescuing them from their previous home.

i just feel like instead of breeding your dogs and creating more puppies (even if you keep every single one for their whole life) why not go out and adopt 3 or 4 dogs? it's not that 'making your own' is really so terrible by itself, but the greater truth is that the space in your home and your heart (and your wallet) could more effectively be used by adopting dogs who are already in trouble and in need. that in turn opens up more room in the shelter(s) so that the rescuers can assist others to find new homes. I just think that those who are able to help, should.
