We have WRIGGLERS!

That is awesome. They will fan them as long as it takes until they start swimming on their own unless you remove them the fry will eat off the parents, watch out if the parents start fighting. Do you have the equipment and food to feed them when they swim on their own?

Sorry to hear that you lost most of the frys. IMHO if you really want to breed these discus, I say go out and get yourself a 20-30 gal tank and put them in for breeding purpose. Once they raise the frys to 4-6 weeks, put the parent back in the planted tank. It's so difficult to breed in a tank with cannister filer, substrates and plants.
That is what I did moved the parents in their own tank. What is funny I had two mating pair in a 38gal tank with a separator two laid eggs until hatching; went over to the other side the other pair took them as their own kinda cool. I have another tank 38 with 20 1.5 inch small discus. I agree.

Yeah, its true, but that filter I shut off. Everything that happened was unexpected. They almost always eat the eggs and when they hatched I was caught with my pants down so to speak. Sadly I work 14 hours a day and did not have the time to get things set up right. But now I know what to expect so it's all good. Was very exciting to experience though. I have most of the stuff I need for the next time my discus spawn.

There are special intake sponge covers that fit on your intake you can purchase. or use sponge filters don't use the original water filter.

:clap:Thanks for the comments everyone! Well First spawn to wrigglers was not so successful but it was very exciting and a good learning experience for myself and the fishies

So just to update everyone. I turn my back on my mated pair after the unfortunate demise of their offspring when lo and behold I see eggs again the next day in the same spot!:grinyes::grinyes::grinyes:

Work was kinda slow so i started prepping stuff i needed to do to make this happen this time around. On my days off i dismantled my 29g planted tank and auto cycled that tank with current filter media and water from the 55g home tank. Was able to get the parents and the fry into the 29g last night and now they have adjusted and are doing great. Copied a few ideas from several members on this forum on setting up an interesting bare bottom tank. Will have to check params in a bit. Everything should be ok. As for my 55 g it is now a work in progress hopefully get that done today after posting this.

Well here are pics of my second batch of spawn on their 4th day of wriggler stage.

Good luck this time. You did your job now it's up to the wigglers to do their job. You should notice the parent starting to turn darker. I think the hardest part of breeding discus is to sit and wait for free swimmers to attach to their parent.
