We Know I'm Overstocked- Now What? Nitrates High!

The two clowns are great now. I took them to the LFS to keep them. I planned on taking down the 30 gallon for my new one (when I get it), and with all of the toxins in the water, I didn't think it was worth trying to start over in it so I'll tear it down tonight... I just hope the clowns do okay- I'll call him after the weekend to see if they are- that way I saved 2 out of the 7...

I am verry sorry to hear about your fish. I feel guilty now saying that amquel is good. I never use a large amount so I have never had a problem with it removing oxygen. But as I asked before, do you have a protein skimmer?

It's not your fault. I used a normal dose of Amquel Plus. 1 tsp. per 10 gallons. No, I don't have a protein skimmer. I plan to on my next tank. Thanks!

Valerie

If you had a protein skimmer, the amquel might not have been a problem and it would remove waste before it turned into nitrates. Well, at least your fish lived until you put in the amquel. Some people start the hobby with nothing but an undergravel filter and add more fish than you only to have there fish die the next day and not know why.

Wow, I'm bummed to hear about the fish. Also surprised that Amquel would do that. Now we know there is a possibility of catastrophe, so I guess some good came of it.

sorry to hear about the loss. i hope the clowns will survive. keep us posted
