Weather Loaches in Mass?

You know a thought just hit me. There seems to be an ongoing persecution of the Asian live food fish industry. First Snakeheads and then Weather Loaches. Sounds like discrimination to me.

Why are they illegal up there? That's weird. They can take lower temps but surely they couldn't survive over winter in Mass.

When I first got into the fish hobby. I had a pair of weather loachs. Neatest fish there ever was. Really tame. I was out of the hobby for a few years. When I got a tank again. I went looking for one. Nope none to be found. But I did find out that some of the simular species, but with different scientific names are legal here. There are several species or sub species that almost look alike. But only one of them are illegal here. I know there is one weather loach type fish that is legal here. Looks just like a weatherfish, but has a reddish tail. Cant remember its name. But it is hard to find.

I've even seen them for sale at lfs here a couple times, so it's not like the fish police will knock on your friends door.
I was paranoid when I moved to MA with my pet quaker parakeet, also illegal, until I saw them for sale a time or 2. (RIP Reggie) Seeing that he wing injury & couldn't fly well (why I had him), I MAY even have been able to get a permit...or not

I go with the don't ask, don't tell, but don't be irresponsible code of pet & plant ownershop.

I don't know, white clouds are too. Perhaps thye just assumed that they potentially could do damage, but so could zebra danios which are more adaptable and thrive in lower temperatures like white clouds and weather loaches.

Its a good rule to follow, as long as you can tell whos experienced and whos not.

they are highly adaptable fish, and COULD start a population in massachusetts.
