weird cichlid

i have had an electric yellow for about 2 months now and i have other cichlids too. but anyways my electric yellow is putting the gravel in his mouth and spitting it off to the side and creating a hole. he is like digging out the rocks. is he building something? or is he just trying to be a pest?

Africans like to dig. My P.electra is always rearanging the gravel. Sometimes they dig to clear a spawning site but most times its jsut he is trying to clean out "his" territory.

I fyou have lots of rocks make sure they are secured and won't fall if he digs under them. Eggcrate is good for this as the fish aren't able to dig underneath the rocks

Yup, they like to dig. Look arround you. See all those houses and buildings? Grass and landscaping? Same theory, only on a fishy level.
