ok so here's the scoop. i was using guppies to cycle my tank for my future angels and nothing changed everything stayed at zero and all the guppies died. so then today i took tank water from the tank my future angels are in and put some of it into the new tank to try and get some nitrates and i tested the levels a couple hours after adding and my readings are

Amonia .25
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 20 or 40 having trouble telling the diff
ph its like 7.2 or 7.6 may have to test the high ph to see

is the tank basically cycled or am i going to have a dreadful ammonia spike soon... hopefully not as the angels come home on the 16th

ok guys thank a bunch I'm going to keep testing on a daily basis then while doing water changed to get ammonia down

Do you have any fish in the tank? If not, since hte guppies are no longer in there, you need to feed the bacteria or they will die off.

yep i'm going to keep using fish water from the angel's current tank to keep bacteria going at a good lvl for the angels.

The water contains little to no bacteria. Use filter media, transfer decorations or substrate. Also, add an ammonia source to keep alive the bacteria currently in the tank, and test your tap for nitrates to make sure it isn't a false reading. If you are using water from your angelfish's tank, you may be reading nitrates from there.

No, no I don't think they are adding the water thinking there is bacteria in it, they are added it to keep the bacteria alive. To give them food, essentially using it as a substitute for the ammonia directly added to the tank.

I'm not sure this is going to help much
the angles are in a cycle tank..??
are you setting up a new tank for them to move too?
why not just move filter media over when you place the angels?
