the good quality parrots at my local petsmart were so cool. one of them seemed to like me and i started to take a liking to it and i wanted to take it home with me but then i saw the price tag- $25! i was like OMG! a kid my age cant afford a fish that pricey! and my parents were "like yea right im not gonna pay for that its 25 bucks! i can get you 20 neons for that!" o well... i might be able to compromise a 50/50 price split lol.

i prefer natural animals, they way they were meant to be in nature. all the fish i have right now are natural strains. silvertip tetras, a red honey gourami (the wild strain of honey gourami, there are a few other color variations) otos, and my ctenopoma acutirostre. my cat is a mutt, and my rats are mutts i saved from the feeder bin. yes, my rats are color variations not found in the wild, and somewhere in their history they were bred to have the colors and markings they do, but overall mine are just mutts, even the one dumbo i have.
i am not really against breeding for variations in color. color occoures naturally and they just breed certain animals together that desplay the specific color traits they want to make that color stronger and more dominant.
however, i think that physical deformities that some moron decided looked kind of weird and cool, should not be bred. like the oranda, bubble eye, celestial eye, etc. goldfish, or the baloon mollies, blood parrots in general, etc. i think they are all ugly and deformed.
longfinned varieties of fish is also different, because just like color, they just breed together two fish that naturally have extra long fins, and continue until they get a longfinned variety. the fish can still function and move and eat and see, unlike many of the goldfish varieties, blood parrots, etc.

No the color they are when you see them is the color they will be... Unless they are dyed but usualy they dye the jellybean parrots which are much smaller also. The orange ones are not dyed. They are Blood parrots. I bought my 2 parrots about a year and a half ago and all i did was pick the 2 brightest orange ones i could find...(btw i only paid $4.99 each on pals card at petco) They are still bright orange and i have a few pics posted... look em up... I do not agree with dying or especially tattooing any living thing. However I can't stop ppl from making these fish so I feel im saving the lives of my 2 favorite fish. Most of the hybrid fish should be kept in a single species tank, maybe a pleco or loach for friends but as with my parrots it was alot of trial and even more error. My parrots have to be king and queen of the tank or they hide all day and dont spawn. They eat like pigs. Every time they eat you would think I hadn't fed them in a week. I also have some of those balloon molies... they just kinda float around at the top of the tank and thats about it.........edit: What is a green parrot? A blood parrot is ethier a midas and a redhead mix or a green/gold severum and a red devil mix.

I don't like the dying of fish, but I'm totally fine with the GFP fish- the genetically modified ones that glow.
My genetics professor uses the same gene, along with the TMV (Tobacco Mosaic Virus) to create plants that glow... it's cool, and can even be linked to other genes to make it more than just a novelty. (He made one plant that would only glow when it was "thirsty").
To me, the genetic modifications are OK, because they are incorporated while the fish are embryos; if it was "too unnatural" the fish would not form and it could not occur. It would be really awesome if they could link the GFP (green fluorescent protein-from jellyfish) gene to a gene that would allow the fish to only fluoresce when water conditions were good or it was not hungry or something like that... (I was going to say when it's stressed or hungry, b/c that would be useful, but I could see that leading to some very hungry & stressed fish!!)
Also, selective breeding is OK, as long as the fish is functional- like for color or fin length. I mean, that's how we got corn, and the US runs on that! (Try finding something that DOESN'T contain corn!)

I can't believe the brain fart I had. Found an awesome picture of some jelly bean parrot fish. There were 6 of them and they were the most vibrant colors. Blue, Pink, Yellow, Green, Orange, Yellow. First thought was "oh I have GOT to get me some of those" followed by "hmmm ... those fish can't possibly be those colors naturally". Nope, after some research about them I no longer have any desire! OMG! I was sickened by how they dye these poor things!
I like my Betta and guppies just fine, and they come in very pretty colors all on their own! sick sick sick! I'd have flaked out on that store too! I had never heard about tattoed and lipsticked ones though. Good Gawd!!
