Weird Flake Food Question

I have had my brackish fish tank now for about a half a year and it has survived a move to my new home. ( 4 - 5 hour adventure... ).

My fish are now the biggest fish i have every kept, except for maybe a pleco I had when I was young. However now that they are getting bigger, i've noticed an issue with flake food. I feed my monos and scats flake food as well as a variety of other frozen foods. However with a can of flake food as you get closer to the bottom the food is all broken and is in a lot of small peices instead of big flakes. I have noticed that the fish could care less about this small flake food, and I think it ends up more on the bottom of the fish tank then in the bellies of the fish.

Does anyone else experience anything like this? Should I just use the flake food while its big and then give the last portion of it to a friend to feed his small tropical fish or should I perhaps go to a floating pellet?
 
With larger fish the pellets would actually be better, just get the appropriate size for them and give the flakes to a friend.
 
When I had Monos and Scats and they started getting big, I switched to Frozen Formula One and Two (made by Ocean Nutrition), that way I could feed a cube or two and break off the size pieces I felt they would eat (and of course they would). They LOVED it and it made their color even deeper than when I had them on flakes. So I would recommend either pelleted or frozen foods. Hope this helps and good luck!

I have another question. I have noticed that only one of my three monos is eating now. Usually if I put some frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp, the tank becomes a feeding frenzy. Now only one of my Monos seems to actively eat. I've checked my water parameters and they appear to be fine, and all the other fish in the tank are doing well.

My friend who works at the LFS says that the monos are affected by the season and they are just not eating because summer is quickly ending. Is their really any truth in this? I haven't seen them eat in 3-4 days. I'm thinking maybe I should get some ghost shrimp and see if some live food will stir their appetite.
 
one option with the flakes is to take a small portion out of the main can and put it in a different container for daily feeding. that way the entire package of flake is not being handled (and broken down) constantly.
 
I feed my medium & larger fish freeze-dried plankton & krill. Frozen krill is also very nutriitious, as is cut up pieces of people shrimp & earthworms. I feed a lot of blackworms to my fish too.
