I am getting this weird hard white residue on my tank whenever water drips down the outside glass. I think it may be from my water conditioner. It's the BA's water conditioner, which is supposed to be a relabelled Stress Zyme.

Could it be the water conditioner or more likely something else in the water? It's really annoying.

sounds like a lime or calcium residue. i get it on my tank on the back of my light hood from the little spits of water that come of my biowheel. nothing you can do about it as far as i know. comes from the hardness of your water.

if anybody knows of a way to prevent it......i'd love to hear it

I don't know if it is that though. If some water drips down the front glass there is a tough residue there in a short time. I thought calcium or hard water residue takes a while to build up. I get it on my filters a bit after a long time tho.

I get a mineral deposit buildup on my 55 gallon around the top frame on the outside. I can scrape it off and it'll be back in a day or two. Kyle

This seems to happen to me too. I seem to get it on my Brackish tanks. It's like a couple of hours after some of the water has dripped on the sides, it gets really hard and I need a knife to scrape it off.
The only thing that I can think of to do to get rid of it, is just take a towel and wipe off your tank after water changes and filling your tank back up. Thats what I do and it works.

How much of the white residues are you getting? If you'r talking about just the little bit of white, then it's normal... I got it everytime I made a mess on the glass during waterchange too.

It's just the hard water minerals that got left behind. And also, tank water isn't exactly 'clean' water. There are lota other things like fish poo particule, bacteria, nitrates, and what not, all of which will also precipitate out when the water dry up. I always have a bottle of glass cleaner handy whenever I'm done with my waterchange ;)

How hard is it to wipe off?
I get the whiteish precipitate where the tank water drys on the outside of the tank when i do water changes. This wipes off really easy though.
