Weird slimy algae type stuff...

Just a heads up - antibiotics can adversely affect your biofilter so keep tabs on water params. With enough plants, you may not see a spike.

Thanks Sploke, Yup, I know, hopefully with the daily 30% w/c's and the 1/2 dose of the medz, I shouldn't have much of an issue. I also have some huge swords in the tank, that made it very difficult to cycle in the forst place, My nitrates have always been low. (I dose nitrates for the plants)

Add a powerhead or two to introduce more current in the lower parts of the tank.

remember it is a bacteria(photosynthetic) so if treating with an antibiotic remember to use the full course of treatment.
the problem with BGA..if you don't get it all..it will comeback.

it does respond to blackouts. so if it becomes pesky.. try a blackout and maracyn.

Just remember you are likely going to kill off all the good bacteria too and will need to start your cycle all over again. Once the BGA is gone and you do the big water changes to flush the drugs you have to start the parameter checks.

Q

Additionally, you will want to take measures to prevent it from recurring.

I have actually full dose erythromycin(maracyn) with no ill effects on the bio filter.

you should keep an eye on the parameters but it does have a history of having no effect on the beneficialbacteria(some anti biotics are specific to the bacteria they affect)

Additionally, you will want to take measures to prevent it from recurring.

i dont know what caused it in the first place, so i am not sure how to prevent it in the future.. Any Suggestions?
