Weird White Spot on my Pleco -see pic

It was probably the salt level...white spot is now gone

Just a FYI for anyone searching for this problem in the future. I did a 30% water change without any salt then did another 30% change about a week later, and now that spot is gone. So my advice would be to reduce the salt levels. Some people say to eliminate salt all together for the pleco but this is a community tank and my mollies like having some salt. I've seem to find a happy medium and in my future water changes, I will be putting in about 50% of the salt that I used to.

Salt will not kill plecos and many people and wholesalers keep some salt in their tanks. One of the places that has nice plecos around uses 2Tbs per gallon. I have used salt from time to time , especially to acclimate and to deal with ailments or fish that were experiencing some kind of problem. It is also a way to raise the TDS in preparation for simulated rainy season when breeding plecos. Using salt I have never had any problems and I think some of the rumor comes from salt being added to fish who are already dying and don't have a chance anyway.

I am wondering if the pleco has been wedging himself behind the heater? That spot looks a bit like what can be caused by heater burn.

If this is the case, just get him a cave of some sort so he doesn't do that anymore and you may concider a heaterguard.

I think the Pleco is way to big to even attempt to get behind the heater, but you never know. The spot slowly appeared over about a couple months. It started as a slightly lighter spot, and kept getting lighter until it was almost white. Within about 3 days after removing 30 of the salt, I could notice it getting darking and after 2 weeks and 2-30% reductions, it was completely gone.

I guess the only way to tell for sure is to re-introduce the same level of salt into the aquarium, but all my fish seem more than happy the way it is now.

Did you mean 2 tps per galloon? If you meant 2 tablespoons per galloon then that is A LOT OF SALT....but I'm sure he/she knows what they are doing.
