My betta that I have had for almost 3 years (3 years in like 2 weeks) died today.. just found him on the bottom of his tank, no signs of any disease prior just he sat on the bottom quite frequently and would come up in a hurry for food but had been that way for months. Fins all in good shape and no signs on body, he was just a normal petsmart betta and iv read thats about the right lifespan for them give or take a year :-/ bummer, Im tempted now to buy a fancier betta lol

Sorry about your loss. Losing a betta sucks! They have a lot of personality. You can get some pretty cool fancy bettas from breeders both in the USA and imported. I got my first CT from a breeder here on AC that breeds some GORGEOUS CTs. =)

Yea tomorrow I am going to check out petsupermarket, I saw a REALLY nice bright orangy one there a few weeks ago so maybe theyll have something cool in again... if not ill check petsmarts if not ill just have to order one of these cool ones from aquabid

sorry to hear about losing the little guy - I think you are right that he was at his normal lifespan. I've seen those orange bettas as well, very pretty!

Sorry to hear that. I remember loosing my first betta. But then I did like monthly water changes when my parents made me. I take much better care of my steve now. I cant wait to get him into his 5g hex this sunday!

Nice! My betta has lived in a 4 gallon biorb for 2/3 years and a 2 gallon bowl-ish thing for the first year. Biorb isnt very practical for real fish use but the betta sure seemed to like it!

Yep, right now mine is in one of those "pet carier" things commonly marketed as betta things as well. I think it is around half a gallon to 1g. Hopefully this saturday the test will come back that the 10g is cycled. Then on sunday I can bring back the "starter fish" still alive and in seemingly good health and get some more neon tetras. Then I will move my guppies and neon tetras out of the 5g into the 10g along with the new neons. Then, the hex 5 gets a makeover for steve. It gets moved to my bedroom, and gets new decor and fake plants (chosen not to hurt my betta) and possibly new gravel. (this gravel is a few years old and has been used multiple times. Starting to look bad. I think I am going to replace it with new gravel and then put some of the old stuff in a sock or something and in the tank for a couple days. I will still have the filter media though.)

But, this thread isnt about my plans, it is about yours :)
Head over to the pet store and get yourself a really cool betta.

Sorry bout your betta, but pat yourself on the back for keeping one that long! And everyone else has said, go get yourself a new one that catches your eye, and post pics! :) But again sorry bout your betta, it sucks when a fish you've grown attached to passes, at least it was from old age and not disease or parasites!
