well ...

The hair alge in my pond seems to have started to die off finally. I have been trying to figure out how to get rid of it via natural intravention but in the amount of time it's taken me to figure anything out it must have run it's cycle, either that or the coments have been snacking something fierce!

Anyway, it's looking much better now, no help from me.

I read a while back that you had purchase a new filter (or used, either way, it was new to you). When did you hook it up? Does it have a UV sterilizer in it? The UV would've taken care of it if this is the case. Or maybe even just the circulation of the water took care of it...... at any rate, my sister has a pond and doesn't run the filter during the winter and keeps it heated to prevent the pond from freezing solid.... I'd say in April, she had a serious problem with algae too.... so we started the filter and it was busted... she left it out during the winter and the UV broke, and all the electronics fried.... so we went out and got another filter with a good $$ amount of experience learned (she will be bringing in the filter for future winters). Once we hooked up the new filter and let it run for a few days, the problem looked as if it never existed. Congrats on combatting your problem too. ;)

filter

I got the new filter at the beginning of the season, probably late March/early April and installed it the moment it was delivered. It doesn't have a UV sterilizer, it's a very large canister looking thing (holds probably around 15 gallons of water or so) with a pump that gets placed in the pond to run the water into the canister and through the filter media. Then there's a return tube that puts the water back into the pond. The filter was placed about a month or so before the major hair algea bloom. I think it was just a matter of waiting it out and hungry fish that took care of the problem.

Thanks
