We are leaving for a week TOMORROW and I still cant figure out the stupid timer..
So, I was wondering if I could just use the night time lights... or whatever they are called
That way I can just leave them on 24/7

post a pic of your timer.

usually you set the current time of day and set when you'd like it "on" and "off". also the light needs to be set to the "on" position.

the two types i have are 1> uses a red and green removable plugs for on and off. 2>uses switches on all the hours which i have to move all the switches to the on position and keep the others at the off position.

just play with it. you can usually move the timer dial and see what would happen while you're away.

good luck.

this is my SW tank! i dont want the water to turn green ff i leave it on 24/7 nor do i want the zoos to die if i leave it off!

so, i was wondering if I could just leave the blue lunar lights on the whole time... instead of using a time with the other lights

lunar lights dont replace sunlight/tanklights. they are usually for the benefit of the viewers. some animals/plants/corals can benefit but not enough for growth. it may do more damage leaving the lights off.

if you're worried about the timer being on too long you could scale it back a few hours.

hopefully a SW aquarist will chime in but a timer replaces you in the whole scheme of things. the lunar light wont replace the tank lights.

so this is what http://www.animalworldnetwork.com/aqlitibyma.html says

Programming is a simple three-step process. Set the current time by rotating the numbered dial until the selection arrow points to the proper number. Set the working time by pressing a grey dial clip for each hour desired for operation -- each clip represents 15 minutes. Then, just set the “TIMER ON”, plug the light into the timer, and the timer into an electrical outlet.

bt what if i want it to turn on at 10 in the moring, and turn off at 8?

you want it to turn on at two different times?

from what that site says it seems that there is only a grey clip (how many clips are there? so that grey clip will keep the light on for 15mins and then it will turn back off.

so try this, set the current time by putting it next to the solid triangle. set the grey clip on 8a and another on at 5pm and rotate the dial to speed the time up and see if the lights go on and off and for how long (15mins? if so add additional clips to the desired length).
