Hi All..just was curious if anyone has some insite on something my sixline wrasse has been doing occasionally. Bascially he will swim with his body vertical backwards for a bit then move vertically down the tank and quickly flip his tail(back half) and swim normally. When he does this its always in the front viewing area of the tank and he kicks up a little sand below him. Almost seems like he is playing in the current, fish dosent display any ill symptoms. Could this just be him having fun? I've only seen it maybe 3 times in past couple months. good healthy tank, 60 gal, live rock and all that. I know he isnt being hasseled by any other fish. Just thought it was kinda strange.

It's probably noramal. Salt water fish can take some pretty interesting poses sometimes. My cardinals love hanging out in their cave upside down and they are fine. If it doesn't show any symptoms of distress I wouldn't worry.

It sounds pretty normal. Mine is very entertaining though horribly aggressive to anything similar. New arrivals are usually greeted with swimming tail down , nose down and so on. Plus the white line through his eye goes blood red

Hmm sounds like a devil fish! I noticed it again somewhat last night, it almost seems like he is annoyed darting around the tank and doing these little twitches. Havent put anyone new in the tank for over a month, they all get along and none of the other are doing anything out of ordinary. Water quality is good, i did do a fairly agressive cleaning of the tank glass, and a water change a few days ago. Maybe that has something to do with it?

I had a 6 line when I first setup my nanocube, I had to trade him back in because he was way too aggressive, even to my cleaner shrimp. He would do that exact display you are talking about when I got too close to the tank.He was a good eater, to say the least, he always stole food out of the shrimps mouth.

I have a Coris Wrasse that is the character of my tank. He gestures and postures. He does what yours does and digs out little bunkers in the sand. When I change water, he buries himself in the sand. He buries himself in the sand when he sleeps and is quite punctual about bed time - between 9:30 and 10 PM, lights on or not.

He's a great fish!

Haha I noticed that too with this fish, they have a set time they go to sleep and they stick to it. Mine dosent bury itself in the sand rather slides inbetween some rocks or a piece of coral and hangs out until the morning. Amazes me how fish can have such personalities.

About a month ago, I did a complete teardown cleaning of the tank. After I had the tank all set up, my wrasse was nowhere to be found. I knew he liked to bury himself in the sand, so I sifted the entire sandbed with my fingers in search of him. I couldn't find him. I went to bed that night sick to my stomach thinking that he somehow left the tank on a piece of skelatal coral that I cleaned. The next morning, I went right to the tank and there was the wrasse!

I'm in the process of slowly adding live rock to replace the coral decopages I have now. I aggressively sift the sand under the area I want to put the LR, just to make sure I don't crush the wrasse. He moves through the sandbed as easily as he does through water.
