I'm looking at a wet/dry with 5 gallons of media space...if i cram it full of live rock and live sand, would it be adequate filtration for a 55 gallon FOWLR or would I still need live rock/sand in the main tank?
hey
i'm from canton too!! (CT)
anyways, i would recomend a lot more liverock for that size tank. more than you could fit in a 5 gallon container. it is usualy recomended to have 1-2 pounds per gallon but in reality, the more the better. i have 95-100 gallons in my 40 breeder (without a sump) and about 40 in my 29.
plus, it jsut looks unatural to me without sand or LR in a tank...
you can have most of your rock in the main tank.. (that will give you a fuller look) and the sump can have some ruble but it really doesint matter as long as you go at least 1 lbs per gallon ;]
i would actualy suggest ditching both and getting a sump with a refugium. you can then fit a skimmer in there easier, as well as more live rock, more sand, macro algae, and also ahve more water volume to dilute any pollutants or waste.
