What a difference a little cucumber makes!

Just thought I would post this for those who are having trouble getting their plecos to come out into the open. I purchased 2 2" clown plecos about 2 weeks ago to put into my 90 gallon heavily planted/lots of driftwood community tank and I rarely ever saw them, and it was only one of them at a time. In fact, I was beginning to worry that one of them had died. I took the advise of fellow board members here and put in 3 slices of cucumber weighted down with some plants weights and voila! I came back into the room maybe 30 minutes later and there they both were, hovering in the area of one of the cucumber slices. I really am beginning to like these plecos and they are wonderfully colored. My LFS has a similar sized royal pleco for $24 that I am thinking of picking up. Does this sound like a good deal for this nice species? Do plecos get along if mixed with different types?

Good job on the cuke, mine likes romaine & zucchini too. I'm pretty sure royals get up to 12 inches maybe more so I don't know if they'd all get along. Do the clowns hang around together? I thought they'd fight but maybe it's a pair or you have lots of hiding places?

I try not to recommend royals because of their large size, propensity to eat plants, and otherwise extremely messy nature. I had one for a short while and he produced a LOT of waste. Beautiful fish, though, but only really suited for giant tanks in the 8ft. and up range.

BTW $24 is a decent price for one, unless it's very small.

Dropped half a slice of zucchini in my plecs tank last night; all gone this morning.

He's laying on the bottom with a fat belly; coulda swore I saw a bubble escape from his mouth as he belched....

:thud: :p: ;)
