What a gift!

Hey all,

Thanks for the kind words and interest. They are still doing great, eating white worms and blood worms and just enjoying the quiet tank. I am going to try to get some pics - the tank position is going to make it tough though. Maybe Craig could post some of his in the meantime. I would love to see 25 or so of them in a species tank - they are cool looking fish.

Later,

Here are pictures of my largest pair. Still young but should be ready to breed soon. Video shows the male hanging out in the plants. For being 25 of them I rarely see more then 10 at a time. I know they are there as I've done 95% waterchanges to get them to come to teh front of the tank. My tank is setup biotopish to where they would be found in the wild. Slow moving streams along banks with lots of wood and plants in the water where they can hide in teh roots.

Craig,

LOVE the tank set up - I really like biotype set ups. If I ever have "just" a tank I would like one set up like yours. Thanks for the pics. Are you going to breed them or just let things happen in the main tank? I don't know whats going to happen w/these yet. My male has a faint white outline on his tail - I didn't notice it in the one pic - does it come along when they mature or are there different types?

Thanks again,

The white becomes more prominent as they mature and near spawning age. I've got some juvies showing faint marks already. My large male has a white seam around the edges just doesn't show up well in the pictures.

For the most part I'm going to just let what ever happens, happen. Unless I decide I really want to breed then I would jsut pull out a pair and let them breed.

Craig,

Thanks for the info!

I think the male is holding eggs!!!! :woot: This morning the female looked different - she had some wide striping - like faint yellow and darker brown. The two of them were staying close to each other - she ate and he just followed her around. I read that the female presents the eggs to the male w/her mouth and he was very attentive to her. Tonight she is very active and eating everything - he is staying hidden in a dense planted area. It looks like he has something in his mouth - it is just hard to tell. I REALLY hope he is holding eggs - how cool would that be!!! :cool-1:

Time will tell,

Hi all,

I got the camera out tonight and was able to get a few pics of the bettas. They aren't the greatest but you can at least see them. You can see the white fringe on the males tail - he did not have any white when I brought them home. They are doing great but getting spoiled - really cool little guys.

Just got back to check out your pics. Are they both red? My female has no red that I've seen and she doesn't have the white seams around her body like the male, just a couple white tips on her front lower trailer fins. I'll try to get pics as I'm just doing a water change and they should venture back out soon. My female is getting super fat over the last few days. :)

My female is mostly yellowish brown. I jsut shot a couple minutes of video and am uploading it. You can see the big male and the big females kind of blends into the background. The big female I got some good shots of around 1:35 or so till the end of hte video.

Hey Craig,

They both have a similar body color until they go into a spawning mode - then his colors get intense and she becomes boldly striped kind of dark brown/light tan. He is getting rosy cheeks also and really healing up well. The white you noticed on her fin might be a light thing and her fins are still a little tattered from being in the LFS for so long. His fins have healed much quicker than hers. Last night they were in a courting phase - not sure if he is holding yet. He ate the last batch - I have read that that is not uncommon for several spawns before he figures it out.

Look forward to seeing you video,
