I want such a large tank even for a solitary betta so I can heat it in my cold house and cycle it to cut down the stress of total water changes on both the betta and myself. Ideally, I'd like to add other fish as well.

I'm seriously considering buying the 8 gallon JBJ Nano Halfmoon Biotope aquarium. It's the freshwater tank, and the gph is 77. I plan to plant the tank with Betta Bulbs.

Does anyone have experience with this tank?

Will the current be too much for a super delta or halfmoon male betta?

I also want to put a few other fish or inverts in the tank to eat any algae and provide me more eye candy. Would eight gallons be too little for a few ghost or cherry shrimp along with a betta? How about otos? How many could I include with the betta and maintain water quality?

Finally, for anyone who has the tank, is it quiet enough to keep in a bedroom?

Thanks so much.

If you see the current is to much for the betta, you can put a sponge under the output part of the tank filter. Ask the seller if the filter has a control output buttonto slow down the water movement. I' have seen those tanks and they are really nice. BUY ME ONE and ship it to my home please. You can add shrimp to the tank but they might get eaten. You can add 2 male platies to the betta tank, I believe a few neons, just keep in mind neons are schooling fish you'll need at least 6. But the otos sound good to. If you do decide to add shrimp, provide them with enough of hiding places. Keep the temp in the tank at no lower then 75 and no higher then 80 degrees. High temps make bettas age faster and strong currents will do the same. If you dont have any test kits, buy them. Do your weekly water changes to keep the water and fish healthy. Good Luck.

Be very cautious adding shrimp to a tank with a betta. Last time I tried that My betta killed 12 shrimp overnight!

I like the oto adding idea but otos should be kept in schools of at least five so otos would not work in a tank that size.

Snails would probably work in the original posters tank.

I think I might have made a mistake. 1 Betta and 5 otos might work after all.

High temps make bettas age faster and strong currents will do the same.

I believe that both of those thing you just mentioned are myths. Especially the strong currents one.
