what algae eater would you recomend for a 75 gal cichlid tank?

so what should i do instead?
Use algae scrubber.:) There is no need for you really to rely on fish and as your fish are mostly African cichlids, a lot of fish are quite incompatible in terms of water conditions and temperament issues.

Rethink your stocking and invest in an algae scrubber. They work wonders!

i don't want a pleco only because it cleans algae, i really like plecos. my last one (i returned it to the store because it had gotten too big for me to keep it anymore) was so active and fun to watch when it was on the side of the aquarium. =]

There has to be a reason not to keep them with mbunas. People keep them because they are "armoured".:shakehead: Eventually the pleco suffers from severe stress by brutal abuse of the cichlids. The same thing can be said with loaches. Just because they have spines under each eye doesn't mean they can defend themselves quite well. A common mistake among those who keep mbunas as well.

I'd actually stick with the algae scrubber. It does not add bioload compared to plecos. Besides we want our water parameters up to our expectations.:)
