Took in a dozen "cherries" couple weeks ago..They are in a 20 gallon long with a piece of driftwood, small plant pieces, little java moss. Two, maybe three have babies looking to break from mammas, I think. When they do, are they in danger from other shrimp? What to feed?
 
If they are only in the tank with other Cherries, then the babies should be fine...

as for feeding, normally they eat the same thing as the adults do, so if you are purposely feeding the adults, the babies will eat the same, otherwise, just make sure there is at least some algae around the tank for them to graze on...
 
Thanks Homer..I'm absolutely green at this. I was thinking the cherry shrimp were like that, but realized I wasn't sure. How long will female carry shrimplets after they begin struggling on her pods?
 
Jim, just check your food, and make sure it doesn't contain Copper (in any form). Wardley foods (for example) contain copper sulfate in them, and I unfortunately figured this out after killing a whole colony of RCS. I checked water parameters over and over and got nothing only to find out I was poisoning them at the gut level :(
 
^ wow, i never knew some foods would contain copper, let alone enough to kill a colony of shrimp...

I guess i've always been an elitist in a way after i started keeping my colony of CRS, in the sense i only feed top quality shrimp pellets from Japan, or frozen baby brine shrimp to them...

But now that i know that fact, i'll be looking out for the ingredients in future if i change foods...

Captain, it's 3-4 weeks before the babies are born. If you look really close, you'll notice the little black spots on the eggs right before they start hatching xD
 
Right,Brad..I have one of those"economy" duals running on them now..but that reminds me,..I should replace the sponges very soon,I think. How much light (low watts t-8) is good for them? I've noticed they sometimes move away from top of driftwood when light come on, like they would rather not be so illuminated.
