What are best Rams to have?

Rams are beautiful fish and I was wanting to add some to my community tank. The thing is I want to know from people's personal experience what are the best Rams to keep? This will help he so much in making my chioce. I'm able to get bolivin rams, blue and gold rams, balloon rams and one other that I don't remember. Thanks
 
I'd stay away from baloon rams. They are specially bred for the genetic abnormality, and they are more sensitive than the already delicate rams that are "healthy". Bolivians tend to be easier to keep, where blue rams are the best looking. Gold rams are the same species as blues, but IMO blues are prettier. What kind of setup will they be going in?
 
There going into a heavy planted 55G tank that I have had running for over a year now. There's nothing in the tank but I plan on having community tank with rams in it. Are blue rams hard to take care of? Do they die easy? They will be with some runnynoses, hachetfish, ottos, and cardnials or black phantoms.
 
They are not as hard to take care of as most people say IME. But I have been very careful with mine so that explains it. Acclimate them very slowly, I drip acclimated mine for an hour before putting them in the tank. If your filtration is good and you don't miss a water change, they will do fine.
 
blue rams are more colorful but less hardy as the Bolivian ram.

balloon rams are (as Sumthin fishy has stated) genetically altered blue rams.
gold rams are a color morph of the blue.

I have Bolivian rams..they are tough and entertaining.
also with blue rams you need to be aware of where they came from..many have been dosed with hormones and are even less healthy.

if you can be assured the blue rams are from a local source you stand a better chance of them surviving.
 
German Blue Rams. . They are gorgeous.
