Looking for tetras (or similar schooling fish) that get in excess of 2.5". Other than Congos, what are my choices? Prefer a high bodied fish to a streamlined one.

Might want to look at Rainbows. They get pretty high bodied. won't school as tight as some tetras, but more in the size category you are looking for.

How about Nematobrycon palmeri (Emperor Tetras) They are quit large.

These were going to be my suggestion as well...I had about 12 in a 75 gallon and I loved them! They school occasionally and have pretty colors. I had mine for over a year and they were about 2.5".

Emperor are pretty stream line though.

Have you looked at bleeding heart, serpae, goldskirt, blackskirt, diamonds?

ALthough not the body shape you described, African Red Eye tetra, Hemiodus Sp.

Look up bleeding Heart, Hemmigrammopetersius caudalis, Diamond Tetra, Red Eye Tetra, colombian tetra.

There are many more and their compatibilty depends on tank size/layout, etc.

Here's a good sized Tetra, Hydrocynus goliath:

Buenos Aires might be worth a look. Don't get that deep bodied as skirts but they do get 3 1/2- 4" in length and will school some, BTW, they can be a little nippy with each other and company. Good luck.
