What are the best master test kits?

I've just moved up to what amounts to a 120Gal block of freshwater water in my living room. I've been into Goldfish for sometiime but I felt it's time to get real serious because I'm goingto be investing in a better variety of GF's.

What are everyone's opinion of what are the best master test kits?

Whats the range of the API Master? Nitrite, nitrate, ammonia, Ph, etc?
I've heard the LaMotte kit is serious. I looked it up and it is serious. Would this be overkill for hobby reasons?
