I have a ten gallon fish tank, what are the best fish for me

to get?

1. I prefer cheaper,
2. slightly big( just not too small to become hard to find)
3. somewhat active in movements, any info?

Today, I bought three Red Pacus's for $12( 2 for $12 deal)

at a nice small fish store, but from the research I gathered

today the aquarium will be too small for them very soon.

Any help?

Dwarf Gouramis are about as big as you want to get for a 10g.

pacus will out grow a 10 gallon so you are wasting your time with them they grow over 2 ft long you can do a search for freshwater fish and find out the sizes for fish that is right for your tank

Hmm, not many large fish can fit a 10 gallon. Bettas are fairly inexpensive for the pet quality ones and with their flowing fins they can look fairly large. A nice male would thank you for putting him in a ten gallon, er, if he could talk. Also, if you wanted to add a nice small group of like 5 pygmy cory cats, they'd do well with him. Since they are a schooling fish they can give the impression of a larger fish in the tank. They generally occupy the bottom to mid levels of the tank. Best of luck to you, and if you are very new to fishkeeping, please check out the Freshwater Newbie section and read the sticky topics at the top of the forum, most especially that sticky titled, "Cycle". It's a very important think, cycling, and knowing what it is and how it works can keep your fish from dying.

Go with a few guppies, mollies or swords, with a couple cory cats. Add an otto or 2 to keep algae down. Maybe 2 or 3 zebras or neon tatras also. Don't go big, you don't have a big enough tank. Unless you plan to get bigger tanks, stick with these and you'll do fine. It's a good start.

get a nice betta out of those cups, then try to find sweet female guppies, a male might become too territorial with the betta, unless you find a sweet one of those as well (i did :bday: ) They would look great together, make sure if you do get a male guppy you will want at least 3 females if not four with him to keep him calmer and you WILL get babies. or if guppies do not sound pleasing, zebra danios and leopard danios are very pretty just not as colorful and if the betta is territorial the danios are by far faster and not to mention mine have actually calmed my aggressive fish down, they turned them into little half-angels  Just a thought...

Also look at balloon mollies those are freaking cute and very interesting to look at.

i wouldnt get the danios, im boycotting danios, bad experince, very hardy fish tho, i think u should get sword tails, their awesome and the males looks cool. also cherry barbs are good fish, maybe a shrimp to keep the tank clean, it'll also add a bit of odd ball to your tank

Shelldwellers are perfect for a 10 gal. tank!

Some are more colorful than others, but what they may lack in color, they make on personality! I have a multie colony in my 10 gal. tank and love 'em. Multies are supposed to be the world's smallest cichlids, but your tank will be rearranged daily by these little bulldozers! Check 'em out:

if you get palties do not get guppies, they will interbred and that is bad
