What are these black dots on my java fern?

Yea, I'd let'm grow as is for a while. And get some new, freebies. Then see about fine tuning the new stuff in purty show peices. Mainly because it looks like you have 5 leaves and considering removing two or three.

Get yur babies and start them on a new peice of wood.

By then you'll probably have another tank to move your original too. And start the process over again. ;)
Then...... you could always sell the next bunch of juvies in the clasifieds here. And get your money back. lol Or keep'm all and fill that 55g santa brings, with javas.
 
Sometimes they just fall off. Or you can probably give them a little help when the leaves are an inch or so long?

I had one that that grew into a big bush in the 55g for around 3-4 yrs. I never done much to/with it. Except trim some out once every 5-6 months.
It probably had 6" leaves for babies on it, before they'd fall of on their own.
It done all of its growing under 1, 40w light. They're considered slow growers. But I'd imagine they'll grow faster under decent light and conditions.
