i just bought 2 bunches from walmart and the little old lady at the cash register only charged me for one... well, i just want to know how fast these things grow and what their general needs are... and how many "leaves" should i let grow on the runner until i cut it to divide it??
what are your experiences with giant harigrass?

I got one bunch of these and I spread them out along the back of my tank. Seems like a really easy plant to work with IMO. (refer to tank specs if necessary)
they seem to grow at a decent speed. They keep on getting in the way of the Hagen step ladder thing I have for my CO2. But other than that I have no complaints. I just take care of it like all the others. And the good part about this one is that it's one of the few plants in my tank that has any algae.
I just let it grow, so I never cut it. But I would think you can just cut it once there's a good root system growing off the runner.

I'm not sure on the tall species but I give the dwarf hairgrass a haircut and it bounces right back.
