Hi, in the next few days im getting a Canister filter, either a FLuval 304 or a Cascade 700, is there MUCH difference in quality/outcome in the 2, one is cheaper which suits me but i dont want it if it has nothing on the 304 by Fluval, i need opinions quick, thanks everyone!

I just recently purchased the Fluval 304 from petsolutions.com and so far I am very happy with my purchase. I don't have any experience with the other filter mentioned so i can't really help you decide. I will say however, that I got a decent price on the Fluval from that site i mentioned, and am, so far, very pleased with the filter.

just bought a fluval 404. like it very much, though it was a pain to set up. hate the ribbed hoses. i also bought a filstar xp3. i like that one as well. might you consider a filstar xp2? good filter for the money. both are cheap at petsolutions or bigalsonline.

i would go with a 404.there only a little more and filter so much more.the fluval is really easy to use once it's set up, and filters almost as well as my ehiem.

Fluval Rena or Eheim....its like comparing Ford and Chevy....just find one that fits your budget and buy it. All have their plusses and minuses....if cost is your BIGGEST issue, Id go with the Fluval.

Fluval

I have a 404 on my 72G and it works great! Absolutly silent operation as well. I ditched the ribbed hoses in favor of clear tubing and hose clamps.

aquanewb: good idea on ditching the ribbed hoses and useing clear, its so simple i wish i would have thought of that years ago. what kind of clamps did you use?

I bought a fluval 303 on new year's eve. It took me over 2 hours to set it up, attatch all the thingies, stick the little feet in the bottom etc....
I plugged it in and turned it on, got the siphon going by sukkkkkkking on it,
it made lot of noise when the air was in it. I went to the kitchen to thro some stuff in the garbage, when I came back, I saw leakage from near the little rubber foot on the bottom. Before I knew it I had a litre of water all over the floor. I threw the wet mess back into the box, and drove back to the store. They offered me another. "Thats not supposed to happen!" No kidding :(

I upgraded to the eheim 2215 classic, took me 20 minutes to setup. And I have no patience for hassles. Parts are nice firm rubber hoses. A child could set it up. And there are stop checks for the hoses, so when you detatch it you don't have a watery mess. Just close off the hoses. That's it. I LOVE EHEIM! Muaaaaaaaaaaaaah! eheim!
