What causes fish to pace? I have had a yellow lab pacing for a few days now.. back and forth from one end of the tank to the other and bottom to top. He still eats and water is 0/0/0-20ish....its just annoying as crap and I dont want him to stress the others!

they're trapped in a glass box, what do you expect them to do?

I agree. This can be a big problem with puffer since they're so intelligent. You don't see it as much with schoolers since they have each other to interact with, but "loner" fish tend to do that if they don't have enough to look at, explore, etc. Try to break up the line of sight within the tank and give him lots of stuff to explore. I know with puffers one thing that can help is to feed live foods every so often. The chance to hunt is very stimulating for them.

I've also noticed this with a guppy in my sister's 10 gallon. It swims around in laps!
